Gorilla Glue - a few words about this exceptionally interesting hybrid

Many breeders, when creating new cannabis varieties, often give them rather unusual names. The same is true of Gorilla Glue, created by Joesy Whales. Behind this wild and surprising name lies an interesting cannabis strain with a hybrid genetic profile that clearly leans towards the indica side. Which strains are its parents? What effects does it produce? Does it deliver generous yields? Find out more and read the article in which we take a closer look at Gorilla Glue.

Where did Gorilla Glue come from?

As mentioned earlier, the creator of this variety is Joesy Whales, who used as many as three cannabis strains in its breeding. Gorilla Glue is therefore a descendant of:

  • Chocolate Diesel;

  • Sour Dubb;

  • Chem’s Sister.

The genetic profile of this variety is hybrid, with a dominance of indica genes. Interestingly, the name Gorilla Glue had been reserved since the 1990s for a well-known adhesive of the same name. The glue manufacturers sued the creators of the cannabis strain for misuse of a registered product name and won the case in court. Since then, the variety has usually been referred to as Gorilla Glue 4 (GG4 for short) or Original Glue.

Why the name Gorilla Glue – explanation

The variety owes its name to its properties. It is as strong as a silverback gorilla, as the percentage of THC in the dried plant material comfortably exceeds 20%, often measuring significantly higher, even up to 30%. But where does the word “Glue” come from? It refers to the extremely resinous buds of this variety. Huge trichomes give the flowers a characteristic stickiness and signal power, power and more power. Another explanation is the couch-lock effect, meaning the feeling of being glued to the sofa after consuming a larger amount.

Gorilla Glue characteristics – aroma/flavour and effects

This variety is exceptionally interesting, very potent and remarkably deep in terms of both its effects and the aroma it produces. Its terpene profile means that cannabis obtained from this strain smells:

  • earthy;

  • diesel-like (after all, one of its ancestors is Chocolate Diesel);

  • coffee-like;

  • woody (somewhat like a charred log from a campfire);

  • and on the exhale, users detect pine and chocolate notes.

Interestingly, the variety also has a distinctive flavour. Many users emphasise that it leaves a slightly sweet aftertaste on the exhale, while when inhaled Gorilla Glue may reveal coffee notes.

Effects of Gorilla Glue

The strain is predominantly indica (various sources give slightly different ratios, usually over 60% indica genetics), but it also contains a noticeable proportion of sativa genes. For this reason, the effect profile of Gorilla Glue is hybrid in nature. It provides some typical sativa effects, but with a dominance of characteristic indica sensations, such as:

  • relaxation, calmness and a state of deep unwinding;

  • a frequent couch-lock effect;

  • uplifted mood and occasional bursts of laughter;

  • possible drowsiness and help with falling asleep;

  • pain-relieving properties;

  • reduced anxiety levels.

The variety has typical recreational qualities, but it also demonstrates effects that many users consider beneficial. High potency, beautiful aroma and flavour, as well as a rich range of effects, have made Gorilla Glue a strain that has won the hearts of users around the world.

Appearance of Gorilla Glue plants

Growers from regions such as the Netherlands and California who have chosen to cultivate this variety describe its appearance as follows:

  • the strain can reach up to 200 cm in height when grown outdoors;

  • it produces heavy, resinous buds covered in trichomes and rich in THC;

  • the leaves are fairly short and broad, although due to sativa genetics they are slightly longer and narrower than typical indica leaves;

  • the plant is not as compact as classic indicas, yet it is quite bushy and gently branched;

  • during the flowering phase it emits a very strong aroma.

The plant is green in colour, while mature buds take on a whitish appearance. This is due to the enormous number of trichomes and the THC-rich resin that covers the flowers of ripening Gorilla Glue.

Gorilla Glue yields

Growers in countries where cannabis cultivation is legal report substantial yields from Gorilla Glue plants. In outdoor cultivation, a single plant of this remarkable variety can produce up to 2600 grams. It is an exceptionally generous plant, although it requires suitable growing conditions. A warm climate (21–29°C during the day), appropriate humidity levels (40–50%) and nutrient-rich soil allow this variety to show its true potential.

In indoor cultivation, growers can obtain up to 750 grams per square metre when growing Gorilla Glue. These figures refer to yields from photoperiod seeds. Autoflowering varieties produce correspondingly smaller yields, but even in the case of these seeds, growers achieve very high harvests with considerable potency.

Gorilla Glue offers high potency, generous yields, interesting effects and exceptional aroma. Do you live in a country where the law allows cannabis cultivation? Try Gorilla Glue.
